pdf pattern for the Faroese-Inspired Shawl by
Elizabeth Lovick
MATERIALS
200g/800m 4 ply yarn
pair 5mm (US8) needles
4 stitch markers
tapestry needle
SIZE
back length 17", front edge 54" after blocking
TENSION
16 sts and 32 rows to 10cm over garter stitch using 5mm needles
The shawl is knitted from the bottom up.
Each row consists of a 5 st border, one triangular 'wing', the back gusset, a second triangular 'wing' and a 5 stitch border. Separate charts are given for the wings and the border.
At the shoulders, extra stitches are decreased in the wings. Then one border is knitted along the remaining stitches, removing them, and the two borders are grafted together.
I used Sweetgeorgia Yarns Bulletproof Sock yarn; 50% superwash merino, 20% nylon, 15% kid mohair, 15% silk; 437 yds / 400 m per 3.5 oz / 100 g for the maroon shawl and ColourMart 100% lambswool DK for the navy shawl.
