This is suitable for a second stranded knitting garment. There are several pages of notes about choosing colours and some notes on the construction, but it assumes you have some experience of colour work.

Materials
The vest will actually weigh about 200 (220, 260, 300, 350, 400, 500, 600) g
set of 3 mm and 3.5 mm (US 3 and 4) double pointed needles or circs
thin circ for picking up stitches
row counter
6 stitch markers or loops of yarn plus one more (or a hanging row counter)
lengths of waste yarn
safety pin

Colours for the photographed vest are as follows, using Jamieson’s Spindrift:
1290 (Loganberry), 1020 (Nighthawk), 150 (Atlantic), 763 (Pacific), 677 (Stonewash), 750 (Petrol), 165 (Dusk), 160 (Midnight), 236 (Rosewood), 555 (Blossom), 440 (Peach), 301 (Salmon), 478 (Amber), 861 (Sandalwood), 1200 (Nutmeg), 462 (Ginger), 576 (Cinnamon), 540 (Coral).

Suggestions for other colour schemes are given – blues using Spindrift, browns and greens using Jamieson and Smith’s 2 ply jumper weight, and two natural colour ways using Jamieson and Smith’s Shetland 2000, one with a light background and one with a dark background.

Suggestions about how to go about choosing your own colourway are also given.

Sizes:
to fit chest 32, 35, 38, 42, 46, 48, 54, and 60 ins. Lengths are 23 to 28 ins, and are easily adjustable.

Note that every size is properly designed. The larger sizes use extra pattern motifs and repeats of the motifs on the vest shown. There are no acres of 4 st repeats!!

Tension
27 stitches and 34 rows to 4 ins over stocking stitch after washing and dressing Adjust your needle size of necessary. Make sure you measure your tension over Fair Isle in the round, as this will differ from knitting to and fro.
