Wear them for warmth or as a fashion statement! Either way these cowls will brighten up the darkest day.

Materials
Fingering cowls:
100 (120, 150, 200) g fingering yarn – photographed cowl uses 3 strands of ColourMart lambswool 1/15 lace weight in aqua with a silver metallic stand
4.5 mm (US 7) dpns or circular needle

DK cowls:
130 (170, 200, 240) g DK or heavy DK yarn
5 mm (US 8) dpns or circular needle

Aran weight cowls:
200 (250, 300, 350) g aran weight cashmere – photographed cowl uses 8/15 cashmere/wool colour camel
6 mm (US10) dpns or circular needle
cable needle for cabled cowl

For all cowls:
row counter, tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Actual size
To fit child (teen, woman, plus woman)
neck circumference 22 (30, 38, 42) ins
length 12 (14, 16, 17) ins
(cabled cowl, in DK and aran only, has slightly different circumferences)


Tension
Fingering: 21 sts to 4 ins DK: 19 sts to 4 ins Aran: 16 sts to 4 ins
All over pattern after washing and drying – the number of rows per inch varies with the pattern. Adjust needle size if necessary to get the right stitch tension. Cable tension is measured over stocking stitch.

Notes
The patterns will work with a large variety of yarn thicknesses and fibres. Bouncy yarns will give cowls which will tend to stand up more, while drapy yarns will give cowls which drape! Cowls can be worn in many ways. With the exception of the cabled cowls, these are all sized to go twice round the neck, or once round the neck and once over the head. Or wear them loose round the neck or over the head. They also look good with a shawl pin! Mine are from Romi – www.designsbyromi.com
