A North Ronaldsay Yarn – The Sheep, Their Wool and Their Island
copyright Elizabeth Lovick 2016
A completely revamped edition of the booklet about the seaweed eating sheep of North Ronaldsay, the most northerly of the Orkney islands.
These very primitive sheep, which have survive virtually unchanged for the last several thousand years, live on the beaches and rocks eating seaweed and the course grass of the foreshore.
The booklet tells of their history and their biology, and something of the life of the island on which they live, in words and photos. The process of converting their fleece to yarn, which is done on the island, is also explained.
