A fischou was a crescent shawl knitted in fine wool. As today, it was worn over the head or round the neck, often knotted loosely, or pinned with a large broach.

The pattern can be knitted in either cobweb or lace weight yarn. The pattern is the same for both, only the needle size and the final dimensions differ.

Materials
For the 1 ply shawl:
50 g 1 ply/cobweb yarn (original use Jamieson and Smith 1 ply cobweb wool)
pair 3 mm needles
For the 2 ply shawl:
100 g 2 ply/lace weight yarn (original uses Jamieson and Smith 2 ply Supreme wool)
pair 4 mm needles
For either shawl:
one thin needle for picking up stitches
row counter
waste yarn for provisional cast on

Sizes
1 ply shawl: about 60" wide and 18" deep
2 ply shawl: about 80" wide and 23" deep

Tension
1 ply shawl: 23 sts and 48 rows to 4" over Centre pattern
2 ply shawl: 17 sts and 36 rows to 4" over Centre pattern
