Do you want the truth about the inspiration for this collar? It was an Orkney Wine Company bottle label! The elongated triangle wrapped round the bottle and I thought, "That would be a good shape for a collar or shawl!"
Materials
100 (100, 100, 200) g DK weight yarn
Pair 4.5mm (US 7/UK 7) needles for hat,
Pair 5mm (US 8/UK 6) needles for collar
2 x 1” buttons, the same or different
Yarn needle
I used Cascade 220 Superwash Paints (100% superwash wool; 220 yds / 200m per 100g skein); color: Jellybean.
Size
Hat to fit 16 (18, 20, 22)” circumference
Collar to fit child (teen, small woman, large woman)
Finished Measurements
Hat 14 (16, 18, 20)” circumference unstretched
Collar 8 (9, 10, 11)” wide and 21 (25, 29, 33)” long (easily adjustable)
Tension
15 sts and 28 rows to 4” / 10 cm in garter stitch for hat
Tension is not critical for the collar, but a different tension will affect yardage and size of finished item.
The hat brim is worked first, then stitches are picked up along the straight edge and the crown is knitted up. The collar is worked from the tip, and can be ended at any point. If you have a second skein, it can also be continued to form a shawl.
