I wanted a shawl which could be used for a baby boy AND his mother! I have combined Shetland lace stitch patterns to give a useful shawl which is both elegant and warm.
Materials
150g / 2300 yd of yarn.
(I used ColourMart 2/28 (see note below))
pair 3.25 mm (US 3) needles
3.25 mm (US 3) circular needle
3 stitch markers
row counter
waste yarn
Size
about 50” square unstretched
Tension
About 21 sts and 42 rows in garter st to measure 10x10cm or 4x4in (unstretched) using 3.25 mm needles, or size required to obtain tension after washing and blocking.
Note
The pattern will work for most other ColourMart lace weight yarns, and cobweb or laceweight yarns from other companies. The yardage may vary. Be sure to check your tension.
The shawl is worked from the centre out. Once the centre and border have been worked, the lace is knitted on sideways.
