This is a modern translation of the Suburban Jacket from the early 20th Century. The piece was knitted by Sheila Cunnea for the film Tell Them of US

Construction
The jacket is worked from the back hem up, increasing for the sleeves, over the shoulders. The fronts are worked down from the shoulder, casting off the sleeves as they are worked. The cuffs are then picked up from the ends of the sleeves. The collar and pockets are worked separately.

Materials list:
Aran weight yarn in the following colours:
400 (500, 600, 800) g MC
200 (200, 300, 400) g CC1
50 (50, 100, 100) g CC2
Pairs 3.75 and 4 mm (US 4 and 6) needles
Stitch holders or lengths of thread
2 stitch markers
Row counter
4 buttons, about 2.5cm/1” diameter

Sheila used Rowan Creative Focus Worsted; 75% Wool, 25% Alpaca; 200m per 100g ball.

Size 1 2 3 4
to fit bust 32 (40, 50, 55)”
actual bust 35 (43, 53, 58)”
length 25 (26, 27, 28)”
sleeve 16 (17, 18, 19)”
Note that because of the construction of the jacket, it is difficult to alter the length of both body and sleeves.

Tension
17 sts and 40 rows to 4” over garter stitch
Note that, because of the construction, you need to get both stitch and row tension for the design to fit.
