The inspiration for this pattern came with the question What can I make from one skein of the aran yarn from the seaweed-eating sheep if the Orkney island of North Ronaldsay? The answer was this pattern leaflet of hat and fingerless mitts in two typically Orkney stitch patterns.

Originally designed for one 120 yard skein of Orkney’s North Ronaldsay aran wool, these patterns can be made in any standard aran yarn.

Each of the 4 items uses 60 yards of yarn and a pair of 5mm/US8 needles. The pattern is written for an adult, but all the items are very stretchy.

The patterns have both charted and written instructions.
